“Made for More” by Josh Baldwin is a song you may have heard on Life 96.5. It’s a God-given invitation to live out your life and purpose as a child of God. As you sing along to the song, perhaps your heart beats a little stronger. You know the words carry truth, but how to live practically in that truth seems just out of reach. Maybe you’ve been burned in the past. Perhaps you’ve experienced failure, rejection, or believed the lies that tell you you’re not good enough or that you don’t have what it takes. You feel stuck. Fear limits potential, holding you back from the plans and purposes God has for you.
In 2 Timothy 1:6-7, Paul sensed Timothy was struggling to be bold. He knew Timothy’s heart to serve God, but fear held him back. Rather than condemn Timothy, Paul laid his hands on him and spoke encouraging words of truth:
“I remind you to stir up the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has given us not a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
Those same words are true for you today. You were created for more, and you were given talents and gifts from God. When you became a child of God, you were given new life. He placed His spirit in you. You have His power, His love, and have been given the mind of Christ! You can stir those gifts within and encourage those around you to do the same. When the “what-ifs” and the “you can’ts” creep in, remember who you are and what you’ve been given. Pray and repeat those same words of truth that Paul spoke to Timothy.
Dear God,
Thank You for placing Your Holy Spirit in me. You did not give me a spirit of fear. You have given me Your spirit of power, Your love, and a sound mind. Please show me how to live by Your power and be compelled by Your love. I want to know the mind of Christ. I am strong and courageous because You are with me. You will equip me by Your power for Your plans and purposes! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
