The Grounded Life: David and Psalm 51

We are so glad you are taking the Grounded Life journey with Life 96.5. God’s word has so much to offer you. Psalms 12:6-7 tells us the words of the Lord are pure, complete, 100% guaranteed and a protection for our lives … which is why you won’t be disappointed as you think about His words throughout your busy day.

You’ve probably heard the stories of David as a shepherd boy. God delivered him from the paws of lions and bears as David fought them with his bare hands. That same David stood before a mocking giant and took him down with just a sling and a stone. David encountered many threatening enemies, and each time, he found deliverance from God. But, in Psalm 51 King David finds himself face to face with a new enemy – his actions. A series of decisions he made, originating from the misplaced desires of his heart, threatened his relationship with God. David needed God to save him from his own self this time around! He wanted a restored relationship with God so …

He confessed his sin and asked God to give him a new heart.
He asked for the blessing of God’s presence.
He requested to once again experience the joy of salvation that comes from God.

Psalm 51 isn’t to shame David for his sin, it is to magnify God’s ability to save us from anything, including ourselves! God is always ready to deliver you, renewing your spirit, forgiving your sin, rewriting your misplaced desires and filling you with joy rather than shame.

When you have a chance, take a few minutes to read Psalm 51. You can write out verses 10-12 as a personal request. Handwriting the message helps it to sink in and to become personal.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Your presence, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.—Psalm 51:10–12

Remember, God’s word is guaranteed. You can expect a purified heart and a renewed spirit as you talk with Him!
