The Grounded Life: Shaping the desires of my heart

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.—Psalm 37:4

Reading a verse like Psalm 37:4 while you are wanting and waiting for your heart’s desires to be fulfilled can bring about questions. Maybe your heart has grown weary, even cynical in the waiting. Do unfulfilled desires mean God isn’t good for his Word? Does the delay mean you need to “do better” to have feelings of delight?

Let’s look at the verse again, but this time consider delight as an invitation to know God more. Saying yes to the invitation is choosing to find or seek delight in Him, not manufacture delight for Him. As you know Him more, your heart will be shaped by His. In other words, He will begin to tweak those desires and fulfill them in ways that He has purposed for you.

Let’s say yes to the invite as we choose to know Him more!

Hang out with God! Make space for Him and show up for your time together. Tell Him what’s on your heart and read the Bible, asking Him to help you understand what He wants you to know.

Think about His Word throughout the day by writing a verse on a notecard and posting it on your mirror or by the kitchen sink.
Ask God to shape the desires of your heart to align with His.

Thanks for joining us on The Grounded Life journey as we seek to know God more! As Susie Larson recently shared on Facebook: “Any gift from His hand pales in comparison to the treasure of knowing His heart.”
